In 1986, Billy was awarded a voice scholarship to the University of Texas at El Paso. While there, he sang with their nationally known "Chorale" and was selected for their elite touring group, "The Madrigals," which recorded an hour-long Christmas special for the national television network, PBS. Since moving to Holland, he continued his theatre work, including a workshop production of the new musical, Move! at the Amsterdam Carré. He has also appeared in several programs for Dutch television, including "Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden."
In 1993, he appeared in an advertisement in Veronica-magazine and performed a major role in a Dutch industrial film which advanced to the finals of an international marketing competition. He was also the main character in two commercials for European television and he appeared in RTL-4's drama, "Diamond." In 1994, he appeared in an advertisement for Bruna in two national newspapers in The Netherlands. Billy began the first of two projects for Canon in March when he performed each day at Hannover's "Cebit 94" as a clumsy "Mr. Bean" type of character. In August, this character changed to an overworked sort of "Mr. Bean" for a marketing film which is being distributed internationally.
